Adapted from Hideaki Sena’s Parasite Eve novel, Square Enix launched the game back in 1998 for PlayStation 1. The role-playing game was quite successful upon release and received many great reviews from both players and critics. Parasite Eve consists of a total of three games: Parasite Eve, Parasite Eve II (1999), and The 3rd Birthday (2010).
Parasite Eve features a New York police officer named Aya Brea who’s on a mission to hunt down the dangerous biological entity called Eve that’s busy trying to kill every living thing on Earth. The merge between RPG and combat in the game was a new concept at the time, leading to Parasite Eve becoming one of the most popular PlayStation 1 games.
Horror fans have been waiting for quite a long time to see Parasite Eve once again on their gaming screens in the form of a remake. Once modernized and developed for a remake, we’re absolutely positive that Square Enix will be able to deliver a masterpiece once again! Unfortunately, there’s no news of a Parasite Eve Remake yet, but here’s everything we know!
Square Enix Trademark Symbiogenesis
Last year, Square Enix might have teased a potential Parasite Eve Remake, making fans go rampant with excitement and speculations. On October 13, 2022, Square Enix filed a trademark for “Symbiogenesis,” which was also made public at the time. Once you search in a dictionary, you’ll see that symbiogenesis, a.k.a, endosymbiotic theory, is when two organisms become one.
Moreover, Sena’s Parasite Eve novel is also based on this concept since Eve is considered a product of this evolutionary theory. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time Square Enix potentially teased a Parasite Eve Remake, as the company also filed a trademark for the title Parasite Eve in the UK. This means that they sure like toying with the emotions of their fans!
Fan-Made Concept Trailer For Parasite Eve Remake
One particular Parasite Eve fan also went as far as making a Parasite Eve Remake concept trailer that features Aya in all her glory. The trailer in question features a cutscene from Parasite Eve that has been remade and shifts to one of the most blown-out battles at a point. At the time of writing, the concept trailer consists of over 12k likes and more than 1,000 comments.
Nearly all of the comments praise the remake that YouTuber Aeon Zohar has created. This shows how much the fans really want the horror remake, even after almost 25 years, and it’s about time Square Enix finally gave them what they want. Since we know that Square Enix is quite good at developing remakes, it’s safe to say that this one is also going to be an epic one.
Reddit’s Take On Remake Ideas
Many fans of the series have expressed their ideas for the story of a potential Parasite Eve remake on Reddit. One Reddit user named puq2021 suggested that both the first and second parts of the series need a “modern” remake. Both of these are great games with stories that can be adapted to a more modern-esque flavor.
There are many speculations about what the story could look like in a potential remake, given how the 1998’s Parasite Eve saw a police officer named Aya Brea attempt to stop Eve from destroying the human race. The sequel also continued this story, giving players more of what they wanted. So maybe a remake could also be divided into two parts and follow the same story.
Since two massive horror franchises of the gaming industry, Resident Evil and Silent Hill, have been receiving remakes, Square Enix should also dip its toes into the terror-inducing titles! Not only this, but with the Parasite Eve Remake, the studio could use this window to once again introduce players who didn’t get a chance to play the original game to the franchise.
All signs point towards a potential remake of the Parasite Eve series that could be on its way. The community is also prepared for it, hoping that Square Enix does right by their classic games and gives them a remake. We certainly can’t wait for the day our wishes are finally granted, and we’re playing the remake on our very own PCs or consoles!
